This was an especially fun and interesting project! It was commissioned to go into the stairway of the Jib Door, a private member’s club in Bath, Somerset, just before its opening night. As the walls were new lime plaster (which needs to breathe deeply), we didn’t want to take a chance using my acrylic paints (which do not). We opted to paint the design in my studio onto large rolls of canvas, which were then hung like oversized wallpaper in situ. Not only did this allow me to work from the studio, I was out of the way of the workpeople on site, and it allowed me to work in my own (sometimes unconventional) timings. We loosely based this design on a William Morris tapestry and featured British wildlife, along with a few cheeky twists for the members to discover.
