Hello friends! The past year has been a time of great change in our family, as many of you know. After an extended paternity leave, I am able to to get back to work- and with how much I love what I do, its all very exciting! I'm taking commissions, and would love to hear from you or someone you may know who may want some hand-painted magic.
In the spirit of fresh starts, I finally have a new website with updated images, created by the lovely Shanthi Govender. I'm about to go on a bit of a roadtrip to have many of my pieces professionally photographed, and am also building a "shop" section of my site, as well updating you regularly with my blog - watch this space!
Just before my paternity leave, I helped to create a mural that was extra special . The clients were renovating and converting a barn in the Cotwolds, which (as often happens) practically became a new build. The entryway, though very tall and impressive, was also asymmetrical and difficult to decorate. The piece we created was a perfect example of how hand-painting a mural can be the perfect solution to architectural challenges.
We decided to reflect the spirit of the Cotswolds, depicting a large dramatic apple blossom tree, which complimented the asymmetrical wall, as well as many exotic pheasants- and don't forget the hare and hedgehog for the delighted children around the ground line! Weeks spent high on a scaffolding paid off, creating a stunning entryway for this beautiful space.
Dystopian Desert Mural
What an eye-catching, dramatic and challenging project! The clients have a passion for collecting contemporary art, and already had a scene like this in mind for their patio before we met to discuss design. Not only was it a delightful challenge to paint an industrial/architectural scene (a first for me) but it had been some time since I'd painted what I call a “traditional” mural, though the subject matter is far from traditional! With nods to their Northern roots and Teeside, the juxtaposition between ancient Bedouins and modern oil fields and refineries (and is that Block 9 from Glastonbury?) is equal parts fantasy and commentary. A pebble dash texture on this exterior wall, as well as the fact that it was autumn in London took some creative problem solving, but what a dramatic transformation for what had been a very blank white wall on a patio.
